13 Foods I Really Miss


Since Jude's MSPI or WHATEVER it is is still affecting him, despite the medication, I'm back to my elimination diet (also known as the Thanksgiving Diet by other sufferers). There is a serious lack of flavor and food on this "diet." Please allow me to whine about the food I miss.

  1. Chai Tea. I like the kind the coffee shops make the best.

  2. Ice Cream. My #1 favorite dessert I can eat virtually any time. I've tried Rice Dream but it's got a few questionable ingredients and it makes me nervous.

  3. NOT meat. Believe it or not, I'm hating all of this turkey and really missing my alternate sources of protein (seitan, beans, tvp).

  4. Bananas. Usually a nice quick, satisfying, pick-me-up snack. Now I have to look at them and resist, since they're one of Q's favorites.

  5. SNACKS. I have rice cakes and craisins, but they just. don't. cut it. I miss crackers and popcorn especially.

  6. Dairy. Even though I logically know the drawbacks of dairy, it's another protein source and quick fix snack for me. And I can't have the soy versions because soy is out right now, too.

  7. Peanut Butter. OMG Peanut Butter!! You would think I'm starved for protein, but I eat turkey all. damn. day. So obviously, I'm not. But these were major staples of my diet, people. Every time I make a PB&J for Q, my heart breaks a little.

  8. Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. Ok, this is several foods, but it's one of my #1 comfort foods. Luke & Q had this for dinner and I was definitely craving it.

  9. All Things Breakfast. Eggs (protein!), pancakes, waffles, soysage, toast, oatmeal, you name it, I miss it.

  10. Vegetables. We don't eat a lot of them anyway, mostly because they're expensive and Luke's picky. But I used to get in at least green peppers & onions on a regular basis. Now it's nothing but sweet potatoes.

  11. Souffles. I used to go to Panera a couple times a month and get a souffle for breakfast with my chai tea. Spinach. Eggs. Artichokes. Red peppers. Heaven.

  12. Alcohol. Even though I'm convinced Vodka is Potatoes, I've not indulged. And I miss my red wine. Oh, and my margaritas. And cosmopolitans. And Bailey's. And Rum. And...

  13. FLAVOR! The worst thing, by far, is the lack of spice. We are BIG spice people in this family. I'm talking using tablespoons when recipes call for teaspoons. Garlic. Cumin. Chili Powder. Garlic. Curry. Italian Seasoning. Did I mention Garlic? I'm beginning to loathe the taste of olive oil, I think.

So there you have it, folks. Feel free to point and laugh.

Can you eat rice and beans? That's my staple meal here at home...In order for me to get variety, I have to go out and eat...

Rice yes, beans, no. Beans & Corn & Rice w/tomatoes & taco seasonings was my staple meal. :(

I'm not eating salt, sugar, wheat, or dairy right now. I've had some seriously out of proportion meltdowns because of it.
